Ten Days of Katrina

On Monday 29 August 2005, Hurricane Katrina landed on the northern shore of the Gulf of Mexico. Katrina inflicted massive damage over a wide area, including the cities of New Orleans, Biloxi, and Mobil. Safe in space, NOAA's GEOS weather satellite recorded the formation of the storm and its subsequent landfall.

I have created two different videos from NOAA's satellite imagery. One is from the visible band and shows the most detail when the sun is available. The other is from the IR band and provides a more comprehensive view of the storm's formation. Both videos have glitches because of mundane technical reasons beyond my control. Still, they are each quite interesting.

Due to bandwidth limitations, it is best that you download the videos before trying to view them. The screen shots are the links.
